Sensei Alex “Kimura” Jacobsen

Alex's journey from a young Judo enthusiast to an internationally recognized martial artist in both Judo and BJJ is a testament to his relentless pursuit of excellence, disciplined training, and strategic adaptability in his career.

Alex embarked on his Judo journey at the tender age of seven, demonstrating early on a profound dedication to the martial arts.

After high school, Alex relocated to Japan, immersing himself in the heart of Judo. He trained extensively at the prestigious Kodokan and other renowned clubs and universities in Tokyo. Alex continued his ascent in Judo at Tenri University, one of the world's leading institutions for Judo. His rigorous training schedule, coupled with academic pursuits in Judo theory and teaching methods, laid a solid foundation for his competitive ambitions.

Olympic Pursuits and National Recognition (2017-2019): Alex's move to Florida's National Training Center marked a significant phase in his career, focusing on Olympic qualification. He clinched a Silver medal at the 2019 U.S. National Championships and made a notable appearance at the Pan American Open in Santo Domingo, an Olympic qualifier.

Transition to BJJ and Teaching (2020-present): In a strategic career move, Alex shifted his focus to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while imparting his Judo expertise in various clubs across South Florida. His dedication was rewarded with a Black Belt in BJJ in December 2023.

International Footprint: Alex has showcased his skills across the globe, competing in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, Israel, and several countries in the Americas.

  • 2023 IBJJF Pan Ams: Middle Weight - 2nd place, Absolute - 3rd place
